Why the Military and Defence Industry Chooses Our Foams

When equipment fails in the field, the root cause often starts earlier in storage, handling or transport. Zotefoams’ lightweight closed-cell foams help protect valuable assets through precision-cut inserts, cushioning, blocking and bracing, ESD-controlled packaging and other defence applications.

Beyond packaging, our materials support communications systems, UAVs, mission equipment, sealing, vehicle protection and impact protection. Final material selection should always be based on technical data, component design and application-specific testing.

Protection engineered around the equipment

Lightweight foams can be matched to equipment weight, fragility and geometry, helping converters create inserts that cushion, locate and protect mission-critical assets.

Low VOC outgassing

Nitrogen-expanded, closed-cell materials help reduce the risk of foam residues, particles or contamination compromising optics, electronics and other sensitive equipment.

Recognised low-fogging performance

Selected materials are tested against recognised automotive fogging standards and proven for low fogging and outgassing, helping protect optics, sensors and electronics in sealed cases.

Proven materials in demanding environments

Specified across demanding sectors, including aerospace and medical applications, our foams give defence packaging teams confidence in material quality, cleanliness and consistency. Selected grades can also support requirements for extreme temperatures, chemical exposure and UV resistance, subject to grade selection and validation.

Safer handling of static-sensitive equipment

Selected static-dissipative and conductive grades help manage electrostatic charge around radios, sensors, avionics and other sensitive electronic systems.

Premium appearance, premium protection

Professional, durable inserts can protect valuable assets through repeated handling while presenting equipment clearly for inspection, access and operational readiness.

Tech Support

Technical Support from Concept to Validation

Our Application Engineering team helps reduce specification risk by supporting material selection, insert design, processing and validation. Performance should be assessed as part of the complete packaging or component system, including the case, insert geometry, payload, environment and expected duty cycle.

Frequently Asked Military and Defence Questions

Ask ZoteIQ a Question

Selected grades can be cut, shaped or thermoformed into reusable inserts that provide cushioning, support and equipment separation. Grade, density and insert design should be selected for the equipment mass, geometry, handling environment and required level of protection.

Density is one part of material selection. The design should also consider payload mass, equipment fragility, static loading, shock environment, insert geometry, temperature and the required level of support. Softer grades may suit cushioning for fragile equipment, while higher-density grades can provide blocking and bracing for heavier items.

Selected static-dissipative and conductive grades help control electrostatic charge in packaging and components for sensitive electronics. Low-loss dielectric grades are also available for selected antenna, radome and communications applications. Final protection depends on the complete component and system design.

Product Information Sheets and supporting technical data are available for relevant grades. Additional test or compliance documentation is grade-specific and should be confirmed for the exact product, manufacturing site, standard and intended application.

Yes. Material selection can be supported by reviewing the application, required mechanical and environmental properties, component design, processing route and applicable test or documentation requirements. Final suitability should be confirmed through application-specific validation.

Zotefoams works with customers and converters on material selection, component design and processing. Foam can be fabricated or formed into application-specific components, subject to the selected material and manufacturing route.

Selected grades can support energy management in high impact protective gear. Suitability depends on the design of the complete protective system and the required test programme. Foam material data must not be treated as certification or approval of the finished system.

Selected closed-cell grades provide resistance to moisture and other environmental conditions. Chemical, UV and temperature performance varies by material and grade, so the intended exposure conditions should be reviewed against the relevant technical data.

Selected grades are identified against relevant UK Defence Standards. Compliance is grade-specific and may also depend on product code, manufacturing site, format and current standard issue. The exact basis and approved wording should be confirmed before any external compliance claim is made.
